Welcome to the South China Sea GIS Update Page
The South China Sea Geographical Information System (SCS GIS) was developed to provide a facility for the online sharing and collaborative development of geographical information and data and information relating to mangroves, coral reefs, seagrass, and wetlands in the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand. The site level information currently contained in the SCS GIS was compiled through the UNEP/GEF South China Sea Project (2002-2008). It is anticipated that the SCS GIS will be built upon during the implementation of the revised Strategic Action Programme for the South China Sea from 2009-2013.The SCS GIS is based on the Google Earth platform. The network of scientists involved in the South China Sea Project has committed to updating this database as new information and data becomes available within the SCS countries. Scientists can update and add data by registering via the link on this page and by following the links below. A user guide to the update of the database is accessible by clicking here. Direct submissions of new data and information can be forwarded to gis@unepscs.org.
All data submitted to the SCS GIS online will be automatically accessible following review and approval by selected regional experts. Please send an e-mail to the GIS manager gis@unepscs.org for any further information.
